Great to see some Gowan,Gowin,Goin information pop up in a search so fast. I'm part of the Goins family of Madison Co.Ky. Williams grand parents Joseph and Judith Pollard had a son William Sr. who married Elizabeth Tatum and had Thomas who had Robert who had Herschel Valentine my Great grand father. Great to hear all the History. I have a pic of Herschel Goins 1910 on his wedding day if you wanna see it.
Andy, I have posted an update that shows both William, your ancestor and Joseph's brother, amd Joseph in the 14th VA Regiment Muster Rolls. He is directly above Isaac Wade, a neighbor of Bedford County, in both the 20 Dec 1777 and 1 Jan 1778 muster rolls.
